Military Probes Agent Orange Claims
The U.S. military said Monday that an initial investigation into claims that it buried Agent Orange on a base in central South Korea in 1978 determined that some dangerous chemicals were buried there around that time but removed in 1979 and 1980.
For the U.S. military, allegations of environmental damage are particularly sensitive in South Korea, where the need for an American troop presence is a divisive political issue.
Mr. House’s allegations quickly drew attention and action at the highest levels of the American military here.
