Chiropractic Care Legislation for Veterans: veterans suffer musculoskeletal and connective system diseases

June 11, 2011

Blumenthal Introduces Bill Expanding Chiropractic Care for Veterans

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) this week introduced the bipartisan Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act of 2011, a bill to improve health care for veterans by expanding access to chiropractic care at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities nationwide.

“All too often, veterans suffer musculoskeletal and connective system diseases that go untreated because less than one-third of the VA medical centers offer chiropractic care and services” said Blumenthal. “Wounds requiring chiropractic care result from IEDs and other explosive devices particularly common to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act mandates chiropractic care and services at all VA medical centers. The legislation would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide chiropractic care at a minimum of 75 VA medical centers by December 31, 2012 and at all VA medical centers by December 31, 2014

Long overdue! We spent beaucoup $$$ on chiro care. It's accepted today (yay) that most  combat troops, grunts, suffer from spinal compression.
My husband suffered a spinal injury during a repelling mishap from a chopper in a hot LZ but since he didn't report it at the time… he had more important things on his mind… like surviving… it was not considered a combat related injury… Later, when he received a 100% combat-related rating for other illnesses/injuries, the VA still would not treat his back injury…  About 10 yrs ago, the VA was supposed to start paying for outsourcing chiropractic care… but, of course, did not inform Veterans/VA patients… & then refused to reimburse expenses paid for care.

This total number of nervous system disorders was equivalent to 0.2% … No connective tissue diseases or infectious.
