EPA’s Superfund Websites Can Save Veterans’ Lives
EPA’s Superfund database lists Chemicals of Concerns (COCs) and their health effects, valuable information to medical care providers.
Thousands of veterans and their dependents lived and worked on military installations that are now listed as EPA Superfund sites.
Exposure to COC’s can cause serious medical conditions, including cancer and death. Veterans with who were stationed on an EPA Superfund installation need to share this information with their medical care provider. This is not about collecting VA disability compensation, but about helping veterans “connect the dots of serious illness” to military service and giving information to their health care providers that could save their lives.
EPA lists 130 military installations as Superfund sites. There is no legal requirement to notify the veterans of the remaining 129 military installations of the COCs they may have been exposed to and their health effects. This is not a mission impossible. It can be done. EPA lists the COCs and the ATSDR has identified the health effects of many of them.

I was stationed on board USS Spartanburg County LST 1192 at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek Virginai from 1972-1974 Drank base water and have diabetes and other disorders . Where do we get help from an attorney to sue for our health ?
Hi Lee, You should look into The PACT ACT of 2022. It’s a long shot but there could be info pertaining to the base where you were stationed. There is
significant info about NAB Little Creek in this Veteran’s Appeal Docket No. 14-30 530 at this link>>> https://www.va.gov/vetapp17/Files2/1707906.txt
NAB Little Creek has been listed as a Superfund Site by EPA. Wastes that have been generated at the Little Creek facility include: pesticides, paints, solvents, inorganics, heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls, mixed municipal wastes, nickel plating baths, chromic acid, silver cyanide, copper cyanide, lacquer, lacquer stripper, perchloroenthylene, sludge, soap, dyes, and degreasers. Refer to above link for further information, and yes you should consider finding an attorney to represent you. I unfortunately can not make recommendations but be sure to find a firm that has experience with veterans claims and the VA.
I was stationed at NAS Brunswick from October 1973 to July 1974. The barracks were actually built on top of the dump. The only thing I know that I have right now is Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease and pre-hypertension blood pressure.
Navel Station (Chaisfield) Beeville Texas Was a Superfund site. My husband worked as an Aircraft mechanic there During the Vienam war. He I believe was exposed to toxins during that time that because of daily and long time exposure would have contributed to the cause of his death(Ischemic Cardiomyapathy) He died in 2005 58 years old.
So very sorry for delayed response and sorry for your loss.
