Latest batch of US MIA remains to be repatriated

A ceremony will be held in the central city of Danang Saturday to repatriate the remains of Americans who died during the Vietnam War, a press release from the US Consul General’s office.

The remains were recovered during the 102nd Joint-Field Activity conducted by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons at six sites in Vietnam. Some were discovered and turned over by local residents.

According to the statement, since 1973, 945 remains of American soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War have been identified, including 668 from Vietnam. Others were found in Laos, Cambodia and China.

Currently 1,701 Americans are still unaccounted for from the war, including 1,303 in Vietnam.
