Niagara Falls CANADA: City has never sprayed Agent Orange

May 17, 2011

City has never sprayed Agent Orange

Toxic component of chemical, however, was sprayed in Stamford Township during '60s

But in the 1960s, prior to amalgamating with Stamford Township, the now-banned herbicide infamous for its role as the toxic component of Agent Orange — 2,4,5-T — was sprayed on a proposed subdivision site, according to a 1961 engineers report.

At the request of council in March, staff investigated whether City officials ever used Agent Orange, an equal part's mixture of two herbicides known as 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T.

"Although this site shows the application of 2,4,5-T, it does not show it being mixed with equal parts of 2,4-D or any other chemical, therefore it should not be considered as an application of Agent Orange," reads the staff report.
